2016 Star VMax | Motorcycle Buyer’s Guide
The granddaddy of the power cruiser movement, the Star VMax is a strongman boasting 102 cubic inch V-4 powerplant with double overhead cams and four-valves per cylinder.
It’s not weak off the bottom, but rev it up and the bike snaps into hyperdrive. If you aren’t holding on, you aren’t staying on; burnouts are a piece of cake. Not a one trick pony, the VMax’s aluminum-framed chassis exhibits nice handling characteristics in the canyons, despite its shaft drive and claimed 683-pound wet weight.
Dual discs with radially mounted Brembo calipers helps slow down the big boy from warp speed, when necessary. Don’t think about touring, as the VMax is a gas-guzzler with a fuel tank that’s not particularly large.
